I rarely ever watch TV or go to the movies. I know that’s weird. Especially where Netflix and chill is so popular… let’s read and chill instead? Anyways, here are my top 10 favorite movies. They change because it’s so hard to pick, so here are my current faves and if you have never seen them, you need to. (All of these are oldies but goodies.)
1. FREE WILLY
Okay, so I know this is the strangest movie to have on a 27 year olds favorite movie list but this is literally a classic, and it you read my 27 Things You Don’t Know About Me post, you would know that when this movie came out, it made me want to change my name to Willie! lol. I just wanted to be a freakin’ killer whale when I was four. Also, this movie made me want to become a whale doctor, if that’s even a thing. BUT this movie is literally a classic. It’s sweet. Has a great ending and killer music. If you live under a rock and have never seen this movie, it’s about a little boy, Jesse, in foster care that gets a job working at a SeaWorld type of place after getting into some trouble. He forms an unlikely friendship with an Orca whale, Willie, that the trainers can’t seem to get along with. After the owners of the park try to kill the whale, Jesse tries to find a way to set Willy free.
2. Uptown Girls
I love this movie so much. And every time I watch it, it makes me so sad that Brittany Murphy isn’t alive anymore because she was such a great actress. This is my most favorite movie she was ever in. It’s near and dear to my heart because this is one of me and my daddy’s favorite movies to watch together. Also, it has really great music in it. I love all of her outfits in the movie and I love the story. It has a happy ending and that’s always a plus. It’s about a young woman in her early twenties named Molly who’s parents were killed in a plane crash when she was little. It shows you how her financial manager steals all of her money and leaves Molly to get a real job for the first time as a nanny to a sassy little girl Ray.
3. Cruel Intentions
This is a really twisted movie. No lie. BUT it’s a great story and the ending kind of makes up for how twisted it is. ALSO, another great soundtrack. Music is key to most of the movies I love. Weird, I know. I love how all of the characters dress and how they speak. It’s very different from how most of the movies coming out at this time were filmed. They speak super intelligently and dress very mature for their ages and I just really liked that about this movie. Also, Sebastians car in this movie is amazing. This movie is about a high schooler Sebastian and his step sister Catherine and how they manipulate everyone in their lives to get what they want. A bet turns sour and peoples lives are turned upside down.
4. White Oleander
I caught this movie on HBO when I was younger and fell in love. It is actually a book turned to film and if you are a reader like myself, you must check it out. (Written by Janet Fitch.) This is also kind of a dark movie. It takes you through the life of a foster care girl as her mother is imprisoned for murdering her boyfriend. It’s insane but really real. The music score in this movie is super awesome and really adds a lot to the film. There are a lot of superstars in this movie so definitely check this out.
5. Young Adult
I can’t tell you how many times I have watched this movie. It is so amazing and has super funny moments. It’s kind of hard to explain BUT it has a great soundtrack as well. Mavis Gary, a young adult author, finds herself lost and ends up traveling back to her small hometown to try to win back her high school sweetheart… who is married with a baby (who’s name is never ever told and it bothers me). I love this movie!
I am so obsessed with this movie. Not only is it just a great movie in general, but the music is amazing. And y’all know how I am about music in movies. There’s also a super cute romance in this movie as well.
7. Factory Girl
This is such an interesting movie. I was super obsessed with this movie when I first watched it. It is about the rise and fall of Edie Sedgwick and concentrates mainly on her close relationship with artist, Andy Warhol! I love all the fashion in this movie and of course, the killer music. Sienna Miller killed this role.
8. Pay It Forward
This movie really moves me. It makes me think about what I can do for others. This is a great movie but make sure you have a full box of Kleenex next to you while you watch it.
9. The Black Stallion
I grew up watching this movie. It’s based off of a book that is also super amazing.
10. Sex and the City
I really couldn’t complete this list without this movie. I grew up watching the show with my sister and I almost lost it when they announced they were turning the HBO series into a movie.
